The reception of the film "happens" in a fleeting moment of tension between the screen and the audience - in the context of the cinema between the screen and the audience.

Film seems to be an easily perceivable art - but in fact it is extremely complex, it operates freely with image, sound, time and space. Film arouses emotions by influencing the senses multidimensionally and referring to cultural codes, processing them, negating them and creating new ones.

In the search for this moment of tension in the project, we chose two spatial elements - the screen and the auditorium - as the main elements that shape the concept of the ECFC building. Repeated, arched “screens” shape the space of the building, its character and its internal complexity - they organize and create a spatial definition of the project. The soft surfaces close off the most important places in the building - the ballroom, cinema halls and an open-air cinema.

A multi-storey foyer extends in the space between the new levels. Its almost cathedral shape is supposed to create a kind of temple of cinematic art. Daylight-flooded, soft geometries with several levels offer a special setting for festival events. The multidimensionality of the foyer enables a diverse, spatial perception.

The main east facade of the building is a screen - both symbolic and functional. Its geometry enables multimedia projections - thanks to it, the building communicates with the public space and transforms the forecourt into a cinema stage during the festival. Due to the demanding location in the immediate vicinity of the old town in Thorn, we propose a simple, compact, elegant - despite its size - modest building. Thanks to the optimal use of the development plan and the geometric solution, this simple shape leaves the view of the old town unchanged. The system is divided vertically into three levels: the plinth (with entrances, museum, trade fair and accompanying functions), the "podium" - piano nobile

(with a representative entrance, terrace and garden) and the festival center. Located on the east side according to the competition specifications, the main square - the new “Toru Salon” - is to integrate the existing facilities and the emerging festival center. The “Piano Nobile” level is connected to the main square by representative stairs that continue the geometry of the front facade and an amphitheater that functionally complements the furnishings of the Jordanki cultural center. These connections give the public space a new level, which enables free design and adaptation to various event scenarios in the ECFC and adjacent facilities.

The main fixed staircase lies slightly axially in the southeast corner of the square and, thanks to its geometry, enables the event to be observed from many angles and levels.
The building is to be surrounded by a park on the west and north sides. It was possible to enlarge this parking area while adhering to the design specifications and reducing the number of underground parts of the building.

We propose to place a passage along the southern wall that connects the main square with the western part of the area. This space - an additional space - also plays an important urban planning role in our understanding through the integration of the CSW Thorn art center and the ECFC and enables part of the market to be opened up and trade fairs to be organized.

The facility's communication service was designed according to the competition specifications - main entrances from the east side (from the main square) and the entrance to the cinema building from the north, additional entrance to the education and market section from the south and west. Deliveries can be made from the west and south.
